Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Civil Design Engineer for a contract role in Stretford. The position entails developing and checking civil design solutions for water projects, managing hours and resources, and complying with relevant standards. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years' experience in the UK water industry and possess a degree in Civil Engineering. This role offers a competitive hourly rate and a hybrid working setup.

Overview

Job Title:Civil Design Engineer (all levels - Engineer/ Senior Engineer/ Principal Engineer) - Water
Location:Manchester (hybrid)
Type:Contract - OUTSIDE IR35(Ltd subject to an IR35 assessment confirming outside status)
Hourly Rate:£45.00 - £60.00 Per Hour Ltd
Hours:40 hours per week Monday - Friday
Duration: 12 months +

Responsibilities
  • Produce and check civil design deliverables that meet all safety, quality, technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop efficient, buildable civil design solutions based on project scopes, surveys and site visits.
  • Communicate design intent, risks and opportunities clearly to clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Provide technical direction to CAD technicians, graduate engineers and junior civil designers.
  • Prepare and review civil design risk assessments, calculations, reports, drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure all civil designs comply with relevant legislation, design codes, professional standards and water company specifications (clean and wastewater).
  • Manage and control design changes, ensuring full traceability, approval and document control.
  • Deliver work in accordance with formal design processes, quality management systems and CDM requirements.
  • Estimate and manage design hours and resource requirements for civil design packages.
  • Attend and present civil designs at ALM, KM, design reviews and client meetings.
  • Maintain awareness of construction methods, sequencing and materials to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum5 years' experience in civil design within the UK water and wastewater industry.
  • Degree, HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering (or significant experience from Technician level).
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE).
  • Registered with a recognised professional body.
  • Proven experience delivering civil infrastructure design for both clean and dirty water projects.
  • Strong understanding of earthworks, drainage, pipelines, chambers, concrete structures and temporary works interfaces.
  • Excellent knowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices and multidisciplinary design coordination.
  • High level of IT literacy, including civil design and document management software.
Technical Competencies
  • Main discipline civil engineering technical authority with awareness of related disciplines (MEP, process, geotechnical, structural).
  • Ability to lead the production and checking of civil drawings, calculations, reports and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of CDM, buildability, health & safety by design and risk management.
  • Experience working to water industry standards and specifications (e.g. DMRB, BS, Eurocodes, water company standards).
