Job description
Senior Children's Residential Support Worker (Temp-to-Perm)

Role Overview: You will take on additional responsibility within the home, supporting the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager to lead shifts, supervise staff, and ensure the highest standards of care are delivered to children and young people. Alongside providing direct support, you will act as a role model for the team, helping to create a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment where each young person can thrive. This is a full‑time position (39 hours per week), involving a combination of long days, sleep‑ins, and weekend shifts. The initial 12 weeks will be worked via our agency, after which you will transition to a permanent role with our client.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead shifts, ensuring effective communication, delegation and support across the team.
  • Deliver high‑quality day‑to‑day care and support to children and young people within the home.
  • Provide guidance, supervision and mentoring to Residential Support Workers.
  • Assist children in their routines, promoting independence, personal development and positive behaviour.
  • Act as a positive role model, fostering trusting relationships and providing emotional support.
  • Implement and oversee individual care plans and behaviour management strategies.
  • Contribute to household responsibilities, including cooking, cleaning and laundry.
  • Organise and participate in recreational, social and educational activities.
  • Maintain accurate and professional records in line with policies, procedures and safeguarding requirements.
  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and escalating concerns appropriately.
Candidate Requirements
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience working with children and young people.
  • Previous experience leading shifts or supervising staff (highly desirable).
  • Compassionate, resilient and committed to supporting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills, with a calm approach under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including weekends, sleep‑ins and holidays.
  • A full UK manual driving licence is essential.
