The role involves ensuring key Marine deliverables are met, providing accurate Marine Pro Forma for business planning, aligning Westfield modelling geographies, building relationships with Apex and EM teams, engaging with Marine stakeholders, improving risk selection and portfolio constitution with underwriting leaders, delivering underwriting goals, communicating the Risk Analytics strategy, and assisting in selecting third-party models.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To own end-to-end Marine Cat modelling/data capture processes, maintaining up-to-date documentation.
  • To direct Cat Modelling activity across Marine product lines, in line with business priorities
  • To ensure Marine exposure data standards are well understood by Underwriting and actively monitored.
  • To report and make data quality recommendations highlighting areas for improvement within Marine.
  • To drive process efficiencies by embedding technology, most notably Terra, within Marine.
  • To maintain an appropriate level of modelling resource, internal and external, to support Marine.
  • To manage outsourcing partners to operate in line with Westfield’s own internal standards.
  • To contribute towards an Marine strategic roadmap, ensuring profitable portfolio growth and optimisation.
  • Ensure processes are aligned with Westfield best practice (R&D), exceed Lloyd’s minimum standards.
  • To make risk level recommendations to drive Underwriting margin within the Marine classes.
  • To produce the monthly modelled rollup for the Marine product lines.
  • To produce the modelled Pro Forma for the Marine product lines.
  • To assist and support other Westfield S1200 portfolios where necessary.
  • To ensure excellent Cat modelling service levels and accuracy for the Marine product lines.
  • To conduct research into non-modelled marine scenarios and make recommendations for effective Exposure Management.
  • To develop rollup reporting framework for non-modelled marine & liability exposures
Responsibilities

Skills sought:

  • Minimum 2 year’s catastrophe modelling experience.
  • Experience of major vendor models RMS and/or AIR essential.
  • Previous experience of exposure management in the Lloyds market.
  • Experience of / proficiency in the use of mapping / analytical software, QGIS, Spatial Key etc. desirable.
  • Must be proficient in Excel and the use of SQL, programming skills in VBA, Python/R, an advantage
