About the Team

We are recruiting confident and proactive Casual Function Managers to join Bath’s Historic Venues Team. The team delivers all private and ticketed events at the Roman Baths & Pump Room, the Guildhall, Victoria Art Gallery and Heritage Parks. Events range from proposals, weddings, conferences, concerts, dinners and drinks receptions and parties.

About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the on‑site delivery of events to a high standard, balancing the creation of unforgettable experiences with the protection of our historic buildings and the maintenance of health & safety standards for all on‑site.

Key responsibilities
  • Customer Liaison: Build strong relationships with event organisers, being responsive and accommodating of any last‑minute requests or changes.
  • Security & Safety: Maintain good order during functions, halt any event that risks the building, contents, or Council’s license, and report any damage.
  • Contractor & Staff Supervision: Supervise on‑site contractors, including caterers, security staff, and the team of Events Assistants.
  • Set up & Dismantling: Oversee and undertake the set up and dismantling of furniture and equipment for events according to client expectations and in line with the Council’s safety requirements.
  • Emergency Management: Ensure the safe evacuation of staff and guests, deliver first aid confidently when required, and act as the primary contact for emergency services.
About You

We are seeking seasoned event professionals who are not only experienced in managing events but are also genuinely passionate about providing an outstanding five‑star customer experience. This role demands a commitment to excellence and a dedication to ensuring that every event attendee has a memorable and seamless experience.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate
  • Significant previous event management experience in a front‑line role.
  • Experience of working in, and being mindful of, a historic building.
  • A good general education with a high standard of written and spoken English and a keen attention to detail.
  • Significant exemplary customer service experience and strong communication skills.
  • Experience of managing staff and contractors.
