Overview

Carpenter responsible for reading blueprints, preparing layouts, measuring, cutting, shaping and assembling materials, building foundations, installing floor beams, laying subflooring, erecting walls and roof systems, fitting windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware, estimating costs and materials, and maintaining, repairing and renovating wooden structures. Work occurs at heights, outdoors, across various commercial and residential sites.

  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments
