Job Summary
  • Hampshire County Council is seeking a Registered Nurse (RGN) to join Emsworth House, supporting older residents in a residential and nursing setting.
  • The role involves attending to the individual needs of residents, monitoring their wellbeing, and providing professional nursing care, alongside supporting key working and care planning activities.
  • The postholder will work under the supervision of the Duty Officer (Senior Care Assistant, Unit Manager, or Assistant Manager) and may be responsible for key working 3–6 residents at any one time.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample)
  • Maintain accurate records of residents’ care needs, complete daily contact sheets, and carry out routine risk assessments.
  • Report any concerns regarding residents’ welfare, both personal and environmental, to senior staff.
  • Act as a key worker for assigned residents, building relationships to promote their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.
  • Assist residents with personal care, mobility, bathing, dressing, and hygiene while using appropriate moving and handling equipment.
  • Support housekeeping and ensure rooms are clean, comfortable, and personal items are organised.
  • Plan and participate in activities as per individual care plans, including outings, hobbies, and social engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, infection control, equality, and corporate policies.
  • Liaise with relatives, healthcare professionals, and colleagues to ensure continuity and high standards of care.
  • Provide emotional support to residents and their families, including during terminal illness or bereavement.
Skills/Experience
  • Knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding, infection control, and administration of medicine.
  • Trained or willing to train in moving and handling equipment (hoists, glide sheets).
  • Ability to manage personal care tasks with patience, empathy, and respect for dignity.
  • Good communication skills for interaction with residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Organisational skills to maintain records and follow care plans accurately.
