Job description
ROLE OVERVIEW

Winchester College is seeking to appoint three Campus Cleaners to join the Facilities team as soon as possible. This team is responsible for the day‑to‑day cleanliness, appearance, and event preparation of all non‑boarding school buildings and administrative offices across the campus. Successful candidates must be reliable, highly organised, flexible, and capable of meeting the physical demands of the role while working largely unsupervised.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Thoroughly clean allocated areas, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, emptying bins, vacuuming, and cleaning showers/WCs.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Work outside when required to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of campus paths and associated areas.
  • Window Cleaning: Periodically clean the insides of windows, sometimes requiring the use of a step ladder.
  • Repairs and Reporting: Undertake minor repairs and immediately report defects, safety hazards, or accidents to the relevant managers.
  • Safety Checks: Participate in regular safety checks, such as fire call points/extinguishers, emergency lighting, and water temperature checks in assigned areas.
  • Event Set‑Up: Assist in setting up event venues for exams, music rooms, school functions, open days, and day‑to‑day activities.
  • Moving and Relocation: Assist in moving and relocating furniture, tables, chairs, and event kit around the campus.
  • Physical Tasks: Be able to lift reasonably heavy items, including cleaning equipment, full bin bags, and pieces of furniture.
  • Flexibility: Assist other departments with moving and setting up items when requested.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
  • Prior experience in commercial cleaning or knowledge of COSHH (training provided).
  • Driving licence is an advantage but not essential.
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Start date: As soon as possible, with a flexible start date for the right candidate.
  • Hours of Work & Salary:
    • Position 1 (Full Time): 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, Monday–Friday 6 am–2 pm (with some required weekend flexibility). Salary: £24,472.50 per annum.
    • Position 2 & 3 (Part Time): 10 hours per week, Saturday and Sunday 7 am–12 pm. Salary: £6,526.00 per annum.
  • Payment: Salary is paid monthly in arrears.
