Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner to join Youth Partnership Service (formally known as Luton Youth Offending Service). This is a multi-agency provision South Bedfordshire. We are looking for a creative, flexible and committed clinician who has an interest in multi-agency working within the Youth Justice System to join the service.

The post holder will hold a caseload of young people referred through the Youth Offending Service (YOS), and will work within the principles of the agreed model of care for the service as laid down in the CAMHS/LYOS operational policy.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as an autonomous and accountable practitioner within an integrated team. This will involve the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care provided and effective liaison with all agencies involved with the service user.

This is a community based post, embedded within the Luton Youth Offending Service (LYOS). Predominantly this service will be delivered within the YOS and will include the provision of specialist advice/consultation and CAMHS mental health assessment. The post is closely linked to Bedfordshire and Luton CAMHS. The post will also include liaison with other agencies and secure estates, specialized clinical interventions and to support, clinical supervision and teaching of multi-agency staff and students.

Qualifications
  • Recognised child and adolescent mental health professional qualification/registration ( e.g. RMHN,_G degree/ Diploma or equivalent in Social Work BABCP accredited)

  • Understanding of current NHS/Social Care policies/practices relating to Mental Health and Youth Offending Services and understands the Child Protection Policy.
  • Training in DBT
Experience
  • Experience of assessing and working with children in acute mental health crisis
  • Minimum of two years' experience in CAMHS and/or young adults in Youth Offending or mental health services
  • Experience and skills in utilizing Routine Outcome Measures
Knowledge
  • Well-developed assessment skills in child and adolescent mental health

  • Ability to provide tailored psychosocial/ cognitive therapeutic intervention to childen, adolescents and families.
  • Ability to work and liaise effectively with other child agencies, e.g.criminal justice team, social services department and education
  • To have the ability to contribute to CAMHS through the use of knowledge gained from research, literature, training and evidence based practice and working with children with Mental Health issues from 0-18 years of age
