Job description

CAMHS Practitioner Band 7 - Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychologist, CBT Therapist, Family Therapist, Mental Health, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist (37.5hrs)

We are seeking to recruit an experienced CAMHS/MHST practitioner to join the Luton and Central Bedfordshire Community access service (CAS).

CAS consists of a number of Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) established following the government Green Paper: Transforming Children & Young People’s Mental Health Provision. The service is undergoing expansion and restructuring.

Core Functions
  1. Delivering evidence‑based interventions for children and young people (CYP) with mild‑to‑moderate mental health problems.
  2. Supporting the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce, develop and deliver the whole school/college approach.
  3. Giving timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help CYP to get the right support and stay in education.

The role involves delivering all three MHST functions. It also involves providing clinical supervision and line management to practitioners within the team, holding a small caseload of clinical work (based on the postholder’s training and interests), acting as a senior link supporting school leads to develop their whole school approach to wellbeing, project work, and other tasks as/when required.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people’s lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

You would be joining a comprehensive and dynamic CAMH service, delivering a substantial stepped model of care following the needs‑led i‑Thrive framework. There are number of posts either within newly formed or established Mental Health Support Teams across Luton and Central Bedfordshire. Your role will help to develop and deliver a wide range of interventions, projects and system changes with the aim of the whole school and whole community approaches to supporting young people’s mental health. In addition to providing comprehensive consultation, assessment, risk management and interventions for young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties in schools, the post‑holder will also clinically supervise colleagues. There may be an option of supervisor training at Reading University which we would strongly encourage post holders to take up.
