Job description
Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cable Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the manufacture, testing, and repair of cables, wiring harnesses, and looms for avionics, maritime, ground, and weapons systems. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work to high quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Manufacture, assemble, and repair complex electrical wiring looms, harnesses, and system cables in line with engineering drawings and diagrams.
  • Conduct electrical and mechanical testing to verify serviceability and assist in fault diagnosis.
  • Complete documentation and maintain accurate engineering records to ensure compliance and traceability.
  • Support the team in meeting performance targets while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Inspect and verify completed cable projects to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Collaborate with production teams to continuously improve processes and outputs.
Qualifications
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Proficiency with electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Skilled in crimping, soldering, wire stripping, heat application, and cable winding.
  • Strong understanding of cable manufacture techniques, including looms and harness layouts.
  • Experience with terminations, connections, and cable testing.
  • Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations, NVQ Level 3 Aeronautical Engineering (Manufacturing Aircraft Wiring Looms), ONC equivalent, or a recognised apprenticeship. Equivalent military/industry experience will also be considered.
  • Awareness of safe practices when testing and working on live equipment with high current/voltage.
  • Desirable: Experience repairing and modifying a wide range of electrical components.
  • Strong hand skills with both electrical and mechanical tools.
  • Knowledge of practical and theoretical electronics.
