Job description
Overview

We are looking for a proactive and commercially-minded Assistant Buyer to join our Procurement team at HMS, part of Torus Group. This is a key role supporting our Category Managers and Head of Supply Chain in delivering value for money, compliance, and efficiency across a wide range of goods, services and works contracts. You will help manage the full procurement lifecycle, from supplier engagement and tendering through to contract management and performance monitoring. Acting as a trusted partner to stakeholders, you will provide expert advice and practical support to ensure procurement activity meets business needs, delivers innovation, and supports Torus’ corporate objectives.

What you will be doing
  • Support procurement projects across construction, R&M, warehouse and wider spend categories.
  • Manage tendering processes including RFIs, RFQs, ITTs, mini-competitions and supplier evaluations.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring performance and driving continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on procurement policies, systems and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve quality and enhance value for money.
  • Maintain procurement systems and ensure all activity is fair, transparent and auditable.
  • Contribute to business initiatives such as materials procurement, waste management and warehouse contracts.
  • Support the development of innovative solutions and collaborative procurement practices.
What we are looking for
  • Experience of the full procurement lifecycle and sourcing methodologies.
  • A track record of tendering, supplier management and contract negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement systems, policies, and contract standing orders.
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office, procurement systems).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide meaningful management information.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple sites.
Interview Process

Interviews will take place at our Stonebridge office on Monday 29th September and Tuesday 30th September. The interview will be competency-based, to assess your skills and suitability for the role.
