Job summary

A Tier 1 contractor near Reading seeks a freelance Building Services Manager. Responsible for managing mechanical and electrical service packages, interacting with subcontractors and overseeing project delivery. Candidates should have experience in a contractor environment, ideally with a degree but those with hands-on experience will also be considered. The role is inside IR35 with contract duration expected until December 2025.

Overview

We are working with a Tier 1 contractor based near Reading to recruit a freelance Building Services Manager for the business. The company is a national brand with an excellent reputation in their chosen marketplace and strong long-term relationships with clients, subcontractors and the wider supply chain. They have a forward-thinking approach to staff engagement and opportunities to grow and develop your career.

The regional office is based near Reading, with geographical coverage across the M4 Corridor to the South Coast. They target work in education, public sector, retail, leisure and commercial marketplaces with a mix of negotiated and framework opportunities. Turnover for 2022 and 2023 has been secured, and 2024 is progressing, placing the business in a position to be selective about the work they pursue.

Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for the services packages across a range of projects.
• Work with the wider site delivery team to oversee services packages on site and manage subcontractors through the install process.
• Deal with all related technical queries from initial install through commissioning and handover.
• Contribute to cradle-to-grave project delivery, ensuring ideas and plans are realized on site.

Candidate Profile / Qualifications

• Experience of both mechanical and electrical services in either a main contractor or specialist subcontractor environment.
• Experience of preconstruction and delivery is advantageous.
• Ideally degree qualified, but candidates who have progressed from the tools will also be considered.

Contract Details

• Inside IR35 – PAYE or Umbrella options only.
• Contract duration expected to run until December 2025.
• Location: Based near Reading with projects across the M4 Corridor to the South Coast.
