A UK healthcare provider is seeking a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist to join their Biochemistry Department in Bath. The role requires a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and quality management. Candidates should have an IBMS approved Biomedical Science degree and current HCPC registration. This full-time position offers a competitive salary of £31,049 to £37,796 annually, along with opportunities for professional development and support within a collaborative environment.
We are looking for someone keen to join the friendly and professional laboratory team as a band 5 BMS. The successful candidate will have technical knowledge commensurate with this grade and be able to maintain and progress quality initiatives with a flexible and innovative approach. We are looking for people who work well within a team and have a patient focused attitude.
The Trust supports professional and personal development through experiential learning and both internal and external courses. A CPD programme is run within the laboratory with speakers from outside and within. Learning resources are available online and via the trust library.
The Biochemistry Department has a Beckman based Automation section (3 x AU5800, 2 x DXI, Automate and DXA pre/post-analytical systems), Sebia electrophoresis equipment (CZE) and POCT involvement across the Trust. The IT systems used at the RUH are Cirdan Ultra LIMS, Sunquest ICE, Cerner Millennium and QPulse quality management software.
The pathology workload is relatively high as we provide pathology services not only to the trust but a wide rural GP catchment area and several community hospitals, both NHS and private.
The Biochemistry department processes a high workload (around 4,000 requests per day or 7m tests per year) most of which is performed on Beckman analysers with stand‑alone and tracked robotics. We moved into a new purpose built laboratory in 2014.
At the RUH we’re proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. No matter what your role is, we value everyone’s contribution in supporting the exceptional, person‑centred care we pride ourselves on.
We are committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive environment. This can be seen in our growing community of staff networks – celebrating successes and creating opportunities to listen and learn. We value our differences, champion kindness and civility, and truly believe that diversity makes us stronger.
A culture of learning, developing and innovating is the thread that runs throughout our whole organisation. We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential.
We value staff wellbeing, with a well‑established programme of support. We believe in a holistic approach spanning all aspects of living a healthy life, including physical, emotional, spiritual and financial wellbeing. We’ve even got a pool!
We are committed to supporting you and hope you want to join our team. In the meantime, find out more about living and working the beautiful historic city of Bath, learn about our extensive package of staff benefits, and read about how we’re providing healthcare fit for the future with the landmark Dyson Cancer Centre and our passion for research.
