Behaviour & SEN Support Assistant – Durham & Surrounding Areas

Location: Durham (with some travel to nearby areas)
Contract: Full time, long term
Start: ASAP
Pay: £89 to £110 per day (PAYE)

If you’ve got a calm presence and a knack for building strong relationships with pupils who need extra reassurance, this role will suit you brilliantly. You’ll join an autism-focused specialist setting where behaviour is supported through structure, co‑regulation and understanding triggers.

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Helping pupils during sensory overload or high‑anxiety moments
  • Using de‑escalation and trauma‑informed approaches
  • Offering steady encouragement and predictable routines
  • Working alongside a friendly, experienced SEND team

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting SEMH, autism or behaviour
  • Is patient, gentle and resilient
  • Can follow structured routines and personalised strategies
  • Drives and is happy to travel around Durham when needed

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
