Qualifications

Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Bank Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Kirkham, a category‑D prison located in Kirkham, Preston. The nurse will support and coordinate a small team by managing planning, overseeing coordination and supporting junior team members. The prison has its own Healthcare department where you will be based, and the primary care team consists of 10 staff members. HMP Kirkham has a capacity of 700 males.

Bank Details
  • Bank hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 – 16:00
  • Bank hourly rate: Weekdays £23.83 per hour
  • Contract: Bank, 1-year duration
  • Working pattern: Flexible
Responsibilities
  • Work within a multi‑disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options.
  • Undertake medication rounds and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed.
  • Assess patients’ health needs using an evidence‑based framework and be able to risk assess, using sound clinical knowledge.
  • Provide advice, support and information to individuals and manage a caseload of patients.
  • Deliver non‑judgemental care that makes a real difference.
  • Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects, liaising with prescribers as required.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with partners and stakeholders.
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision and evidence‑based care.
  • Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, build strong multi‑disciplinary teams and support each other to do a great job.
Qualifications & Experience
