We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Kirkham, an A‑category D prison located in Kirkham, Preston. The role involves supporting and coordinating a small team by managing planning, overseeing coordination and supporting junior team members. You will be based in the prison’s own Healthcare department and will work alongside a primary care team of 10 staff. The prison has a capacity of 700 males.

BANK Hours:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 8am - 4pm

BANK Hourly Rate:

  • Weekdays: £23.83 per hour

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK. This role is subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options.
  • Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed.
  • Assess patients' health needs using an evidence-based framework and be able to risk assess using sound clinical knowledge.
  • Provide advice, support and information to individuals and manage a caseload of patients.
  • Deliver non‑judgemental care that makes a real difference.
  • Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects, liaising with prescribers as required.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with partners and stakeholders.
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence‑based care.
  • Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job.
