Join Our Outstanding Team at Caterham Minor Injuries Unit!

We’re delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Emergency Practitioner to become part of our dedicated team at the Caterham Minor Injuries Unit, located within Caterham Dene Community Hospital.

Our practitioner-led Unit operates from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, providing high-quality care to patients presenting with minor injuries and minor medical conditions.

Main duties of the job

As an Emergency Practitioner, you will work autonomously to:

  • Take comprehensive patient histories and conduct thorough examinations
  • Request and interpret appropriate investigations
  • Diagnose and formulate treatment plans
  • Safely discharge patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed minor injuries and illnesses

Job responsibilities

The Caterham Minor Injury Unit is a nurse-led unit, providing a service for the treatment of minor injuries and minor medical conditions.

You will

  • Treat people that walk in who suffer from a minor injury or minor medical condition and require attention.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with minor injuries and minor medical conditions.
  • Autonomously take a full history and examination, request investigations, interpret the results, diagnose, and plan treatment then discharge patients attending with undifferentiated and undiagnosed minor injuries and minor illnesses.
  • Be flexible in shift/working patterns.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Unit, and the supervision of the junior and trainee Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
  • Be responsible for the management of the Unit in the absence of the Lead ENP.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the maintenance of high standards of nursing care and effective practice.

Knowledge
  • Able to plaster, suture, and dress wounds
  • Able to interpret x-rays
  • Has worked using PGDs
Experience
  • Worked in ED/UTC/MIU as an ENP/ECP autonomously
  • Has previously worked in triage/streaming
  • Experience of developing services

  • Clinical expertise in minor injury and minor ailment assessment and treatment
  • Leadership skills and the ability to manage junior staff
