Job Summary

The Deputy Head of Financial Reporting is a senior finance role responsible for supporting the Head of Financial Reporting and leading the financial reporting function in the production of accurate and timely financial information, ensuring compliance with group standing financial instructions and contributing to the overall financial planning and strategy of the Group. The role supports the production of statutory financial reporting (including GP Lead and Dental Federation) within a team that is responsible for its overall management, performance, and development. The post holder will support the Head of Financial Reporting in coordinating the production of the annual statutory accounts (and any interim accounts) in accordance with the relevant accounting standards (including IFRS), the DHSC Group Accounting Manual and NHS England’s FT Annual Reporting Manual. The post holder should be a Qualified Accountant with proven experience in leading and motivating a team, managing multiple priorities, and communicating effectively to ensure delivery of complex outputs (internally and externally) to agreed internal and national deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Statutory Financial Reporting: Lead and manage the preparation and submission of statutory group accounts (and associated subsidiaries), interim accounts, ICB reporting, audit committee, finance and investment committee, corporate benchmarking, HMRC, pensions, NFI, Freedom of Information (FoI), National Cost Collection Indices (NCCI) and reporting transactions in excess of £25k. This list is not exhaustive.
  • Financial Controls: Implement, review and document financial controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with group Standing Financial Instructions (SFI) and maintain control of the balance sheet. Provide expert knowledge of NHS financial and accounting procedures, legislation, NHS financial policy and the financial impacts of NHS policies, including reference to group procedures.
  • Support the production of statutory financial reporting (including GP Lead and Dental Federation) and ongoing management, performance, and development of the reporting team.
  • Coordinate the production of the annual statutory accounts and any interim accounts in accordance with accounting standards (IFRS), the DHSC Group Accounting Manual and NHS England’s FT Annual Reporting Manual.
  • Adapt responsibilities to meet changes in regulator requirements and financial control demands, ensuring alignment with statutory and governance obligations.

Person Specification – Essential
  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
