Main duties of the job

To provide a very high standard of adult speech and language therapy to patients alongside their family or carers in a community setting, meeting the needs of the multicultural and diverse population.

Act as a specialist resource for the stroke community rehabilitation service, the adult speech and language therapy team, community therapy services and wider multidisciplinary services.

Job responsibilities
  • HCPC Registered as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Strong background in adult acquired pathology, neurology, stroke care and dysphagia management (Band 6 level or equivalent).

  • Sound knowledge of evidence‑based stroke care and NHS frameworks.
  • UK Driving Licence and access to a car for work purposes.

Education and Qualifications
  • H.P.C. Registration as Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Evidence of post‑graduate training (both theoretical and practical) to a high level.
  • Dysphagia trained.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Membership of a professional body or special interest group.
Skills and Abilities
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, able to generate high‑calibre letters and reports.
  • Advanced clinical reasoning and problem‑solving skills within stroke care and other relevant areas.
  • Ability to prioritise own and others’ workload within a busy environment.
  • Experience of supervising and teaching junior staff.
Experience
  • Extensive recent SLT experience at band 6 level or equivalent in adult neurology, especially stroke care and dysphagia management.
  • Demonstrated postgraduate experience across core SLT areas supporting rehabilitation needs.
  • Experience working as part of an NHS MDT.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working in a community setting.
  • Experience leading a project or audit.
Personal Qualities
  • Advanced knowledge of stroke care and evidence‑based best SLT practice.
  • Working knowledge of the NHS, NHS Long Term Plan, stroke and other national guidelines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of community support services available to patients at home.
  • Awareness of current legal frameworks and developments in the profession.
Other Essential
  • UK driving licence and own car available for work use.
