Job description

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated nurse who is passionate about palliative and end‑of‑life care to join the Children’s Specialist Palliative Care Team. Alongside the Clinical Lead you will play an active part in clinical practice, education, research/audit and the implementation of national guidelines.

As a member of a well‑established dynamic team, you will provide specialist advice and support to children, young people and their families, and to all other members of the health‑care teams involved in their care.

Team Composition

The team consists of a specialist palliative care consultant, senior palliative care nurses, senior family support workers and nurse associates. We work very closely with the Children’s Community Nursing and Rapid Response Teams, and the acute settings, to ensure a high standard of care is offered throughout the children’s/young people’s palliative care journey.

Core Responsibilities
  • Facilitate optimum quality of life for children and families with life‑limiting or life‑threatening conditions.
  • Provide specialist palliative care nursing interventions based on comprehensive holistic assessment.
  • Develop and agree goal‑focused care plans in collaboration with children and families.
  • Deliver education and support to children, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in research and audit to improve practice in line with national guidelines.
  • Offer a 24/7 service that enables timely symptom management and supports family choice of place of death.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in palliative and end‑of‑life care for children and young people.
  • Desirable: Independent Non‑Medical Prescribing qualification.
  • Good understanding of symptom control.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Flexible to work full‑time, part‑time or in a flexible hours scheme, assessed at interview.
