Job Summary

Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) is looking for a Band 6 Practice Nurse to join the Benson Combined Practice in Royal Airforce Benson, Oxfordshire. This full‑time (37.5 hours) role offers the opportunity to work with the military and the civilian workforce, providing high‑quality primary health care and occupational health services.

Responsibilities
  • Provide primary health care nursing with occupational health components as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Nursing Officer or Senior Medical Officer and act as a focal point for nursing issues within the area of practice.
  • Work independently to deliver nursing care to the Medical Facility population at risk.
  • Maintain an individual caseload: identify, assess, diagnose and manage patients with complex health needs, minor injuries, illness and specific diseases within competence.
  • Support clinical audit, evidence‑based practice, research and education to improve standards.
  • Lead line management, training, and clinical supervision for Military Medics, junior practice nurses, Healthcare Assistants and other multidisciplinary members.
  • Operate within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct, Ministry of Defence policies and guidelines.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Registered Nurse on the Nursing and Midwifery Council register; current registration required.
  • Professional and specialist primary health care experience (minimum 3 years post‑registration).
  • Evidence of clinical assessment and diagnosis, triage and treatment of minor injury/illness.
  • Knowledge of vaccination, venepuncture, ear care, audiology, travel medicine, wound care, cervical screening.
  • Experience in occupational health or military occupational health preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Anaphylaxis, AED, IPC, Safeguarding Level 3 trained or willing to undertake training.
  • Proficiency with IT systems and willingness to adopt new technology.
  • Registered non‑medical prescriber or willingness to undertake training (where applicable).
  • Good communication, people development, service improvement and equality & diversity skills.
Employment Details

Salary: £38,682 – £46,580 per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time).

Contract: Permanent.

Working Pattern: Full‑time, part‑time or job share.

Location: Benson Combined Practice, Royal Airforce Benson, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, OX10 6AA.
