Band 6 Occupational Therapist - Neurology

Are you interested in working within stroke and neurology? Are you motivated to develop and enhance your OT skills?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the neurological therapy team at Barnet Hospital in a rotational band 6 post. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a visionary outlook to join our team, where you will be able to develop specialist occupational therapy knowledge and skills within the specialty of stroke and neurology.

The successful candidate will join rotations on:

The Acute Stroke Unit - a 24 bedded ward supporting patients admitted across the stroke pathway. The role involves specialist assessment, person‑centred therapy, key‑working, and supportive discharge planning.

The acute neurological inpatient service - varied caseload including clients with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, FND, clients with long‑term neurological conditions.

You will be joining a friendly, dynamic and cohesive integrated therapy team which prides itself on close working relationships with the MDT. Person‑centred care and an approach which promotes self‑management and independence are at the centre of our philosophy. Your clinical development will be supported by the Clinical Specialist Neurological OT and the wider therapy team.

The neurotherapy service at Barnet has strong links with local ESD and community/rehab services; regional spinal services; North Central London Stroke Network; and the NELETN trauma network.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of stroke and other neurological conditions and have experience in the treatment and management of neurological patients.
  • Manage their own clinical caseload of stroke and neurological clients, providing specialist assessment and therapy intervention.
  • Use evidence‑based, patient‑centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions.
  • Demonstrate advanced communication skills.
  • Facilitate and coordinate complex discharge planning to relevant community and inpatient rehabilitation services.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision for junior staff.
  • Supervise occupational therapy students on practice placements.
  • Participate in the weekend therapy service.
