Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity for a full time Band 6 who is enthusiastic and motivated to provide visible leadership to join our team Marjory Warren Unit Day Hospital/ OPD. You will need to have the management and communication skills to lead the team working closely with the Manager, matrons and business manager. The post involves supporting the Ward Manager in all aspects of Ward/Department management and developing the nursing team to ensure patients receive the required standard of care.

The day hospital is on the ground floor of the Marjory Warren Unit, open Monday to Friday with car parking adjacent to the main entrance. The hospital runs infusions, treatments and several clinics, including falls and stroke/TIA clinics, and works closely with services such as Rheumatology and General Medicine.

The successful candidate can be a Band 6 or senior Band 5 and will be supported to develop leadership skills and deliver high-quality care, with professional accountability and a clear vision for the in-patient nursing area.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Ward Manager in all aspects of Ward/Department management and coordinate and develop the nursing team to ensure patients receive compassionate, safe and high-quality care.
  • Be a visible and accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives and staff.
  • Organise own workload, adjust priorities and deputise for the Ward Manager as required.
  • Maintain ward management records and produce timely management reports in the absence of the Ward Manager.
  • Ensure comprehensive clinical records are maintained and manage roster allocation to provide safe staffing levels in line with the workforce model.
  • Supervise junior staff and trainees during duty and ensure efficient use of ward resources (e.g., bank staff).
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Experience in nursing with leadership potential; ability to lead by example and contribute to a clear vision for inpatient care.
  • Ability to co-ordinate care to ensure a seamless and timely pathway for patients and to be an effective, visible presence in the clinical area.
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to work under pressure, and commitment to professional development.
  • Support from Ward Manager and Matron with professional accountability and innovative thinking for the in-patient nursing area.
