Job description

We are offering a developmental opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our hybrid vascular or cardiac scrub team in East Wing Theatres. Vascular and Cardiac experience desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring high quality, evidence‑based nursing assessment, care planning and implementation.
  • Applying knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
  • Ensuring patients receive high‑quality clinical care, respecting customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
  • Recognising and avoiding situations that may be detrimental to health and wellbeing of individuals.
  • Recognising significance of observations, using them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise plan of care.
  • Conducting comprehensive assessment of a person’s nursing requirements.
  • Ensuring all patients have a safe and appropriate discharge plan.
  • Performing nursing procedures and treatments, maintaining high standards.
  • Working with the multidisciplinary team to ascertain treatments and advise on nursing priorities.
  • Taking a clear and concise history, completing accurate documentation and maintaining information systems.
  • Undertaking prescribed physical observations (blood pressure, temperature, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height).
  • Administering prescribed medication, including transfusion of blood and blood products.
  • Exercising accountability in line with NMC code of professional conduct.
  • Familiarising with Health and Safety at Work Act and relevant policies.
  • Adopting a patient‑oriented approach and implementing fire, manual handling and COSHH policies.
  • Managing complex, sensitive or contentious information related to patient care and communicating with multidisciplinary team.
  • Providing day/night reports and acting as team leader or coordinator as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Active Nursing and Midwifery Council Personal Identification Number (PIN) (NMC PIN).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) qualification.
  • Preference for experience in vascular or cardiac surgery (desirable).
  • Ability to work in a hybrid vascular or cardiac scrub team.
