Infrastructure/ Backend Developer

Contract Type: 6‑month initial engagement
Start Date: 1st December 2025
Location: Remote (UK‑based)
Rate: £350 per day (Inside IR35)
Clearance Required: BPSS prior to start

Role Overview

The client is seeking a mid‑to‑senior level contractor with strong backend and infrastructure development experience. The successful candidate will work on maintaining and upgrading a legacy Java/Oracle system, collaborating with existing developers to gain domain knowledge and contribute to modernisation efforts using cloud‑based technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and enhance a monolithic Java application with an Oracle PL/SQL database
  • Pair with existing developers to understand system architecture and business processes
  • Contribute to modernisation efforts and cloud‑based development practices
  • Provide 3rd line support and develop tools to streamline support operations
  • Apply test‑driven development and CI/CD methodologies in an Agile environment
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have strong backend development experience, ideally with SQL and RDS
  • Demonstrate excellent problem‑solving skills and a passion for working with data
  • Be comfortable working with legacy Oracle PL/SQL code and motivated to improve it
