Job description
Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic Occupational Therapy team in Leatherhead. We offer innovative ways of delivering occupational therapy in Community Mental Health Recovery Services. The post will involve both individual and group occupational therapy interventions, following a clear care pathway. These interventions include:

  • Occupation Matters Programme – a 20‑week group which utilises Lifestyle Redesign principles.
  • Recovery through Occupation – a 6‑week group which uses the Re‑Motivation process to improve an individual's motivation and social skills.
  • New Horizons – our occupational therapy‑led discharge pathway to support a smooth transition from secondary services.
  • Individual occupational therapy.
  • Comprehensive occupational therapy assessments.

We use Model of Human Occupation to guide all assessments and interventions and are focused on embedding occupational science and neuroscience into practice. The occupational therapy leadership team commits to extensive, co‑ordinated CPD programmes including robust supervision, care group meetings, Trust‑wide and core competence training, and an annual conference.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based occupational therapy assessment and interventions, both group and individual, to people accessing services and their carers, supporters, and family members in line with occupational therapy pathways.
  • Communicate effectively with service users, carers, the multi‑disciplinary team, and, where appropriate, outside agencies.
  • Contribute to the generic functioning of the team.
  • Provide supervision and mentoring to junior occupational therapists, apprenticeships, support workers, and activity coordinators as appropriate.
  • Provide occupational therapy student placements.
  • Contribute to service development and audits.
  • Take on the role of lead professional when appropriate.
Requirements
  • Valid driving licence and ability to drive with unrestricted use of a car or motorcycle at all times, including community‑based work.
  • Subject to reasonable adjustments for any disability.
  • Maximum 50 % of time dedicated to delivery of occupational therapy interventions and 50 % to care coordination/lead professional responsibilities.

This exciting opportunity is offered within our community mental health service and will be based primarily in Epsom. The postholder may be expected to work within all surrounding community services as needed.
