Job description
Overview

Drive your career forward with this exciting apprenticeship opportunity. As an Autocare Technician/Mechanic apprentice you will be involved in all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, from routine servicing to complex diagnostics and repairs, working with a range of traditional, hybrid and electric vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults and test parts and systems.
  • Follow checklists and carry out a bumper‑to‑bumper overview, service and inspection.
  • Maintain electronic systems, including onboard entertainment systems.
  • Prepare the vehicle and working area, removing slip and trip hazards and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Apply vehicle safety inspection and routine maintenance procedures using vehicle‑specific data.
  • Select and use tools and equipment, including mechanical, electrical measuring tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Record vehicle service maintenance, parts replacement or repair.
  • Comply with health and safety, environmental and sustainability procedures and guidelines.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally with customers, suppliers and colleagues and apply customer service principles.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Level 1 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair desirable; GCSE in English (grade 4/C) and Maths (grade 4/C) required.
  • Experience in the motor industry, formal training at Level 1 or worked within a similar organisation preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, organisational skills and problem‑solving ability.
  • Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, teamwork and customer service orientation.

Apprenticeship and Training

Training will be delivered using a combination of virtual classroom remote learning and face‑to‑face block release weeks at our state‑of‑the‑art training centre. Successful applicants are required to travel centrally to complete their apprenticeship training. All training‑related costs are fully covered as part of the programme, including travel, accommodation and meals.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship you will receive the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard in Autocare Technician.
  • Certificate in Automotive Refrigerant Handling.
  • Level 2 qualification for safe isolation of electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Brand‑specific certifications.
  • Progression towards Level 3 apprenticeship standard in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
