Job description

Empower Students. Build Resilience. Shape Futures.

At Lordswood Boys' School, we are dedicated to transforming lives through a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and support. Our Student Administration, Support & Pastoral Team plays a vital role in ensuring our students thrive – both academically and emotionally.

As an Attendance Officer, you will lead on supporting students and their families facing barriers to their attendance, developing resilience, learning routines, confidence, and wellbeing while working in a highly collaborative environment. If you are passionate about making a real difference, this role could be the career move of a lifetime!

You may have experience working in attendance and in schools more generally, you may currently or have been a teacher and look at this as an interesting way to continue in a school in a different role. You may be a Learning Support Assistant who wants to take the next step in your career.

Why Join Lordswood Boys' School?

Work as part of an expert team! You’ll be joining a dynamic pastoral and administrative team, working in close partnership with the SENDCO, and Lead & Deputy DSL.

Collaborate with the wider pastoral team, including our non‑teaching Heads of Year, ensuring every student receives tailored support.

Enhance an already effective attendance strategy and provision, contributing to a school that prioritises student wellbeing and academic success.

A thriving, expanding school – currently 680 students in Year 7‑11 and growing!

State‑of‑the‑art facilities – our brand‑new school building opened in March 2020.

We invest in our people – staff benefit from Westfield Health Cash Plan, CPD opportunities, and a truly supportive leadership team.

Make an impact every day – play a key role in breaking down barriers, supporting student resilience, and ensuring success.

Your Role – What You'll Be Doing

Our Attendance Officer will be part of a committed and enthusiastic team of pastoral and support staff and will be responsible for coordinating the administration of attendance to improve attendance rates, reduce persistent absence, and achieve the highest standard of educational achievement possible.

  • Building and sustaining relationships with students and their families so that issues affecting attendance/punctuality are dealt with within the most effective way possible.
  • Timely and accurate record keeping of attendance on the School Information Management System (currently SIMS with a move to Arbor this year).
  • Identifying attendance issues and patterns of absence/late arrivals and following up as necessary.
  • Assisting with the admissions process during the academic year, including support with student mobility tracking.
  • Supporting with the collection and update of student data on information systems as required.
  • Working in accordance with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security and data protection.
  • Reporting of attendance data to relevant stakeholders and engaging with local and regional authorities to keep informed of current strategies and interventions relating to the improvement of student absence.
  • Other administrative duties as directed.

This is more than a pastoral or administrative role – it’s about empowering students to take control of their future and flourish.

Who Are We Looking For?

At Lordswood Boys' School, we are searching for someone who has:

  • An awareness and understanding of safeguarding and statutory attendance guidance within schools.
  • A problem‑solver & innovator – someone who thinks outside the box to engage and support students effectively.
  • A friendly, approachable demeanour with an adaptable and flexible outlook, with a willingness to work overtime and be available for emergency call‑outs, where required and be a skilled communicator, able to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Passionate about student welfare and driven to create an inclusive, supportive school environment.
  • Experienced in pastoral care, student support, or a related role in education, youth work, or mental health.
  • Resilient & proactive, ready to tackle challenges head‑on.
  • Committed to professional growth, willing to engage in CPD opportunities to enhance expertise.
