Job description

Attendance Manager

Westminster

Hours: 7:45/8:00 am – 4:00 pm

We are seeking a highly organised, motivated and proactive Attendance Manager to join Westminster Academy. The successful candidate will take a lead role in managing student attendance, ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed, and supporting the wider school team in improving attendance outcomes.

This role is vital in promoting excellent attendance, punctuality, and safeguarding across the academy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on the day-to-day management of student attendance across the Academy.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on attendance data using Arbor.
  • Work closely with the safeguarding team to ensure concerns are identified, recorded, and escalated appropriately.
  • Undertake first-day calling and follow-up with parents/carers regarding absences.
  • Support and challenge students and families where attendance and punctuality are a concern.
  • Prepare accurate attendance reports for senior leaders and external agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and school policies.
  • Liaise with pastoral, safeguarding and external agencies to support interventions.
  • Contribute to whole-school strategies to raise attendance and reduce persistent absence.
Person Specification
  • Essential
  • Proven experience working in a school or educational setting in an attendance or safeguarding role.
  • Strong working knowledge of safeguarding principles and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, staff, and external partners.
  • Strong IT/data skills, with experience in school MIS (Arbor experience desirable – training will be provided).
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.

  • Knowledge of statutory attendance regulations.
  • Experience of working with external agencies to support students and families.
