Job description
Associate Safety and Learning Lead - South

An opportunity has arisen to join NHS Resolutions national Safety and Learning team to support the regional clinical lead in South to support for 12 months or until 31 March 2027, whichever is first.

The successful candidate will gain an in depth understanding of how clinical negligence claims can be used as a catalyst for safety learning and improvement by working with and strengthening existing relationships with health providers across the South as well as building new stakeholder relationships to share claims learning.

The post is a remote role with expectation to work from home and directly with health trusts in and around South locations. Occasional overnight stays to attend team meetings and support national workstreams is required.

Main duties of the job

As the Regional Associate Safety and Learning Lead, you will be responsible for engaging and collaborating with healthcare systems across the South to enhance the understanding and application of safety and learning. Working closely with regional stakeholders, you will provide tailored support to member organizations, leveraging your clinical expertise to reduce claims and improve safety profiles.

Your work will have a focus on patient and staff safety to work at the interface between NHSR, members, patient representatives, other Arms Length Bodies (ALBs) and the NHS in:

  • Supporting the delivery of a safety and learning service for external stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with partner organisations to share insights on claims‑related safety issues.
  • Providing clinically focused support to members in relation to their claims or safety profiles and improve safety cultures.
  • Developing and sharing innovative learning materials and best practice tools.
  • Leading efforts to embed a culture of clinical safety and continuous learning across healthcare systems.

What we’re looking for

  • Masters or equivalent training and experience in leadership, quality, human factors, patient safety or similar area of expertise.
  • Candidates must have a professional clinical registration. We encourage applications from candidates with medical/nursing/AHP background, GMC/NMC/HCPC registration to complement our multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across organisations
  • Programme and project management skills
  • Previous NHS and patient safety experience
  • Experience of changing behaviour and practice within and across organisations using campaign and/or social movement principles
  • Knowledge of the contribution of human factors to patient safety
  • Knowledge and understanding of the links between patient safety and a learning culture
  • Knowledge of implementation, improvement, social movement and campaign methodologies
