An established industry player is seeking an Associate Planner to manage diverse projects and provide expert client advice. This role involves preparing planning applications, conducting research, and ensuring compliance with planning policies. Typically, the role of Associate Planner will involve working on and managing a variety of schemes, providing direct client advice on sites and projects, drafting reports and planning submissions (site assessments, policy notes, applications, development plan representations, and Environmental Statements) and assisting with the management of the team’s caseload.
Key tasks include:
• Assisting Directors to drive forward major projects
• Managing medium to large-scale planning applications
• Undertaking research and analysis
• Preparing planning appraisals of land, buildings and concepts
• Preparing planning reports and planning applications
• Liaising with planning officers, employees of consultee organisations, and third parties
• Liaising and cultivating good relationships with clients, colleagues, and fellow professionals
• Developing creative and original solutions
• Taking financial responsibility for medium-sized projects from inception through to completion
• Remaining informed about documents relating to planning policy and practice
• Attending external events and providing presentations
• Proven track record of playing a key role in successful development consent applications under the Town and County Planning Act 1990 and Planning Act 2008
• Relevant degree and full Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional town planning organisation
• A thorough understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and its relationship with the development consent process
• Applicants should be degree-qualified in a relevant field with a genuine interest and enthusiasm for planning
• A minimum of ten years’ experience working in the private or public sector
• Strong understanding of the principles of planning
• Adept at presentations and technical writing
