The role

As an Assistant Project Manager – Building Design, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Day‑to‑day, you’ll be at the heart of delivering complex, high‑profile building design projects that support national defence and infrastructure.

  • Acting as a key interface between design consultants and contractors, ensuring designs meet project requirements and compliance standards.
  • Supporting project scope, schedules, contract deliverables, and risk management across multiple work packages.
  • Assisting with financial tracking, cost control, and budget management processes.
  • Developing technical requirements and collaborating with engineering teams to deliver robust solutions.
  • Interpreting supply chain reports and turning insights into actionable plans for project success.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Assistant Project Manager – Building Design
  • Proven experience in project delivery within building design, ideally from a client‑side perspective under NEC4 contract frameworks.
  • Familiarity with highly regulated environments, preferably nuclear, and experience using document management systems.
  • Strong track record managing complex, multifunctional building designs through RIBA Stages 1–4.
  • Experience working on nuclear licensed sites or delivering nuclear safety‑implicated structures is highly advantageous.
Qualifications for the Assistant Project Manager – Building Design
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • APM Project Management Qualification (PFQ/PMQ) or equivalent.
