This position carries 3 permanent management units and will require the appointee to teach up to a 0.5 teaching load.

Role details

In 2025, Akaroa Area School undertook a leadership structure review to look at what structure and practices can best enhance the growth and performance of AAS. We have two positions being advertised, AP pedagogical lead and AP curriculum lead, both encompass leadership across Y1-13, with very specific areas of focus and leadership.

The pedagogical lead AP will be responsible for the leadership of teaching and learning practices at all levels of our school, Y1-13. The appointee will be experienced in teaching multiple levels, understand the dynamics of area schools and transitions, and have experience with Te Mātaiaho. We are looking for a dynamic leader with strong pedagogy knowledge to lead us through a significant time of change.

The role offers an opportunity to refine or grow your leadership and change in practice, and have a direct impact on school performance, progress, and facilitate the growth of staff. We are a small school with a very supportive community and a team keen to continue the growth they have engaged in over the past two years. The staff have a vested interest in our akonga, our community, and our school.

Akaroa Area School has schoolhouses to support staff accommodation; a schoolhouse/ accommodation may be available if required.

The AP Pedagogical Lead position commences term 1, 2026 or as soon as possible with negotiation.
