Job description

Job Title: Systems Digital Engineer

Laing O'Rourke's Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC) is looking for adigitally minded engineer to join the Design Centre, where you'll drive Delivery Excellence and Engineered Safety in the design and manufacture process. The role is based at CEMC.

You'll be part of the Design Centre team which produces the models and drawings for manufacture at CEMC – though your role will be influencing and shaping practice rather than modelling directly. This is a prime opportunity to showcase innovation and be a part of initiatives such as transitioning CEMC to drawingless manufacture.

We're looking for someone with experience of construction - either based on project or in manufacturing, perhaps you've worked on projects that have been supplied by CEMC.

Ideally, you'll have an engineering education or background to understand the principles of reinforced concrete. You'll have a natural interest and capability in digital software and systems (particularly 3D Authoring and Review) and be comfortable leading others by influence in this area. Experience of Tekla Structures highly desirable.

What you'll do:
  • Setting up a project digitally for success; identifying opportunities for greater quality and productivity, and recommending the best use of software features.
  • Software, such as Tekla Structures, Trimble Connect, PowerBI, Solibri and others are integral to the efficiency and quality of work. Your role is a custodian and champion of these tools, while being aware of emerging technologies that could be incorporated in future.
  • Collaborate with Laing O'Rourke's project teams and external design and detailing partners, and be a point of contact for them.
  • At CEMC you will ensure the smooth flow of information (models, drawings and data) between the Design Centre systems, the CEMC ERP and the factory floor.
  • Assist the Engineering and PTS Teams in reviewing incoming BIM models - with guidance you'll help assess how suitable geometries in the model are for manufacture.
  • You'll have a small direct team and opportunity for a large influence in the future of offsite manufacture and design process.
