At Delt Shared Services, our Finance team supports a range of valued clients across the Southwest, providing expertise that drives growth, improves decision-making, and creates real impact.

We’re now looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our friendly and high‑performing Finance team. You’ll play a key role in supporting one of our major clients, Transforming Futures Multi Academy Trust, working closely with the Finance Business Partner to provide accurate, insightful financial support.

Please note, this is a 12‑month fixed term contract with a proposed start date of 5th January 2026.

What you’ll be doing
  • Supporting the production of monthly management accounts, including accruals, variance analysis and KPI reporting
  • Preparing cashflow forecasts and supporting budget setting and forecasting processes
  • Managing control accounts, reconciliations, journals and adjustments
  • Handling sales invoicing, receipting, credit control and payment runs
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register and supporting VAT and audit processes
  • Providing administrative support around pupil funding contracts and purchasing
  • Collaborating virtually via Microsoft Teams and SharePoint as part of a remote‑friendly, supportive team

This is a hybrid role, with occasional travel to schools or sites for finance‑related meetings. As some of the meetings can be called on short notice, you will need to be located within a reasonable commutable distance to Plymouth.

What you’ll bring
  • AAT Level 3 or 4 qualification (or working towards it)
  • At least two years’ relevant finance experience
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence in analysing and interpreting data
  • Great organisational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills – you’ll be comfortable dealing with colleagues and alike
  • Experience with IRIS Financials, IRIS Financial Planner, or Arbor MIS would be helpful, but full system training will be provided.

If you’re self‑motivated, detail‑driven and passionate about helping schools make the most of their resources, this could be a great opportunity for you.

Why Join Us

At Delt, people matter – both our team and the communities we serve. You’ll be part of a purpose‑driven organisation, where your work makes a visible difference.
