Job description

Are you an Asset Protection Engineer with experience in civil, mechanical and electrical projects? Have you worked in both construction and design on multi discipline projects?

Contract Length: 6 months

Location: Swindon (On site or in office 3 days per week)

Rate: £350-£400 umbrella (Inside IR35)

The Asset Protection Engineer will lead compliance with Network Rail's engineering-driven safety requirements, ensuring robust technical advice, approvals, and risk mitigation across outside and third-party schemes. This role safeguards railway operations and infrastructure integrity while supporting safe, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible project delivery.

Essential Requirements
  • Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level.
  • Experience managing outside/third-party activities and mitigating associated risks.
  • Relevant engineering experience, ideally across multi-disciplinary construction and design projects.
  • Strong knowledge of technical, safety, and performance standards applied to asset protection.
  • Clear understanding of CDM duties and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of safety management and safe by design principles.
  • Experience in risk assessment, including auditing engineering competency.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Network Rail engineering safety requirements, providing technical advice, conditions, and approvals.
  • Manage mitigation of engineering and safety risks associated with outside and third-party activities.
  • Provide technical input on design, specifications, construction, testing, commissioning, and site supervision.
  • Review schemes for compliance with legislation, including CDM Regulations.
  • Monitor and assess schemes against Network Rail standards, procedures, and route specifications.
  • Manage engineering approvals and consents for project design and implementation.
  • Carry out duties of Designated Project Engineer (DPE) for specific projects.
  • Undertake technical reviews of clearance proposals, planning applications, and land use changes.
  • Review external party applications for discharge of planning conditions and consents.
  • Monitor competence of contractors, consultants, and specialist workforce.
