A municipal education provider in the United Kingdom seeks a skilled Assessor to support adult learners in achieving their goals through inclusive assessment practices. The role involves assessing learner competence, identifying additional learning needs using digital tools like Cognassist, and collaborating with educational staff. The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council. We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need. We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities. We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, and family learning. In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people. Our work‑based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas: Nursery Workers, Teaching Assistants, Leadership/Management, and Customer Care. We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop. Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need. In this role, you will not only assess learner competence against awarding organisation standards but also play a vital part in identifying additional learning needs. You will use Cognassist and other diagnostic tools to review learner profiles, recommend reasonable adjustments, and ensure every learner has the support they need to succeed. Key responsibilities include: review and interpret Cognassist results and other assessment methods to identify potential learning difficulties or neurodiverse needs; develop tailored support plans and recommend reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act; maintain accurate records of assessments, learner progress, and support interventions; work collaboratively with tutors, support staff, and internal quality assurance teams to ensure high assessment standards and practice including contributing to continuous improvement in assessment strategies and learner support.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Coventry City Council’s Adult Education Service is looking for a skilled and proactive Assessor to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to support adult learners in achieving their goals through fair, consistent, and inclusive assessment practices. You will have experience as an Assessor in vocational or adult education settings, and understand assessment principles and practices, including formative and summative assessment. You will be confident using digital tools for assessment and learner support (experience with Cognassist is highly desirable) to identify additional learning needs and implement reasonable adjustments. You will be able to communicate effectively and empathetically with learners from diverse backgrounds. Ideally you will hold a Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent.
