Overview

Area Sales Manager – British Manufacturer / Global Company with mechanical engineering components. World class training and professional development. Home based with UK coverage, ideally within Yorkshire region. Competitive package: £48,000 to £60,000 basic (experience dependent) with on target earnings of £70,000+ and benefits including home office, company car, pension, laptop, mobile phone, credit card and bonus.

Mercury Hampton is working exclusively with this client. The company is a world-leading manufacturer of rotating equipment and mechanical components for applications across multiple industrial sectors. They have sites in over 100 countries and focus on pump efficiency, reliability, and reduced maintenance costs. They are seeking a sales professional with a mechanical engineering background to manage the Yorkshire region.

Responsibilities
  • Report to the UK Sales Manager and take responsibility for business activities throughout the Yorkshire region.
  • Account management and new client acquisition with a 70%/30% split (strategic key accounts vs. new business).
  • Engage with a diverse client base across industrial, process, and manufacturing environments; perform technical solution selling.
  • Operate in a home-based role with regular customer visits; approximately one day from the home office and four days dedicated to developing and managing customers.
  • Report all sales and quotation activity monthly, with support from internal sales engineers for technical backing.
The Candidate
  • External sales experience in an associated sector (mechanical seals, rotating equipment, pumps, valves, etc.).
  • Mechanical engineering background; strong grasp of rotating equipment and mechanical seals is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to understand rotating equipment components such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, seals, etc.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to develop relationships, manage key accounts, and develop new business; upselling/cross-selling aptitude.
  • Excellent communication skills across a wide range of levels.
  • Proven B2B sales track record; dynamic, proactive, and customer-focused attitude.
  • An engineering qualification is advantageous but not essential; a mechanical engineering apprenticeship is desirable.
  • Extensive product training will be provided.
Location & Hours

Home-based role covering Yorkshire UK (e.g., Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, Hull, Sheffield, York, Doncaster, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Scarborough, Huddersfield, Northallerton, Skipton, Pontefract, Barnsley, etc.). Regular customer visits required.
