Job description

Applications are invited for the position of Healthcare Scientist Practitioner Apprenticeship within Clinical & Radiation Physics Group of the Directorate of Healthcare Science & Technology.

Applicants should be eligible for entry onto a healthcare science practitioner apprenticeship (medical physics technology) training programme specialising in radiation physics and able to commit to the 3 year training programme.

A permanent role may be offered on successful completion of the training programme and entry onto the appropriate registration (e.g. RCT/AHCS Practitioner register/HCPC).

The Clinical and Radiation Physics group provides scientific and technical support services for diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation protection within the NHS, private and academic sectors. You will be responsible for delivering aspects of the quality assurance programme and radiation protection services for radiology and nuclear medicine equipment.

Band 5 Annex 21 salary 'based on the current pay scale'

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Responsibilities
  1. 1.1. Perform daily technical administration for occupational and environmental monitoring.
  2. 1.2. Issue and receipt of occupational and environmental monitors.
  3. 1.3. Liaise with the Approved Dosimetry Service.
  4. 1.4. Liaise with staff in regard to new staff for monitoring, non-returns and resolve any routine queries regarding occupational and environmental monitoring.
  5. 1.5. Organise calibration of radiation monitoring instruments including diagnostic, protection, and contamination monitoring equipment and liaise with providers.
  6. 1.6. Organise and assist in local calibration measurements for radiation monitoring instrumentation.
  7. 1.7. Perform local calibration measurements for radiation monitoring instrumentation.
  8. 1.8. Investigate and perform tests on faulty monitoring equipment and arrange repairs where necessary.
  9. 1.9. Perform regular checks on contamination monitoring equipment between calibrations.
  10. 1.10. Perform Quality Control measurements on wide range of complex x-ray and associated devices.
  11. 1.11. Analyse test results, produce reports of the findings, present and discuss these with other scientific staff.
  12. 1.12. Maintain records for Clinical Trial activities.
  13. 1.13. Manage the clinical trials mailbox and database and liaise with R&D and other staff to aid the MPEs in carrying out their assessment.
