Job description
Overview

At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. Our customers use our NanoScience ultra-low temperature and high magnetic field environments to go beyond what was once thought possible, whether that’s creating Nobel Prize winning materials or developing quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.

Would you like the opportunity to work in quantum information science research and development, in a well-equipped laboratory, whilst being supported by an international business and gaining some commercial experience? We have a two-year fixed term contract to be based at Glasgow University, that will undertake cutting edge experiments in this exciting field.

Responsibilities
  • In this role you will be responsible for day-to-day operation of equipment to make measurements on a range of samples with a focus on accelerating developments in the quantum information science space.
  • Identify, develop, and implement analytical technologies and applications that may augment the NanoScience portfolio of products, and help to deliver business growth.
  • Work as part of the applications team and with a wider, multi-disciplined team across commercial and academic environments.
  • Produce applications data for report preparation and carry out demonstrations for the business and customers.
  • Provide support for new applications, product development and sales opportunities.
About You

It is likely that you will have a degree or PhD in a relevant subject and some industry experience would be an advantage. You will have knowledge of cryogenic systems and ideally dilution refrigerators, with an appreciation of the fundamentals of quantum information science. You will also be familiar with measurement techniques for device/material characterisation (particularly at microwave frequencies), measurement automation and experiment design. The ability to communicate effectively with others is essential, together with excellent problem-solving and team working skills.

Benefits

In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays. We also offer 25 days annual leave, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your own requirements. We also invest in our talented employees by supporting them in their ongoing career and development so that they reach their full potential. We care and work hard to provide a workplace where you can grow and learn.
