Job description

Join the Canal & River Trust as an Ambassador and help to connect residents of King's Cross to the wellbeing benefits of being by water. We're working in the area to connect wellbeing activities to suitable venues, so we can host groups of local people to connect, take notice, get active and learn.

We're looking for keen people to help facilitate these activities, to attend and join in, and represent the Canal & River Trust during events. The role is very flexible and can be tailored to individual interests, abilities and availability. Activities may include boat trips, guided walks, yoga & exercise, art, nature connection... and many more!

You will be part of a supportive team network, working with an Engagement Manager and other Trust Volunteers. Your efforts will help to introduce local people to positive activity and opportunity in their area and, by building awareness, you will help to preserve our nation’s history and keep canals alive.

Why we want you

Our Ambassadors help promote the value of our nations canals and rivers by attending events, being the smiling faces at one of our Welcome Stations, promoting our Share the Space campaigns and engaging with potential and existing supporters and customers alike. As an Ambassador you can help not only represent the Trust, but connect more people to our unique environment and raise awareness for canals.

Our Ambassadors are all about public events, specific opportunities when we invite members of the public to join us, learn more, try a new activity on the waterways and find out more about the Trust.

Our other events focused role (Waterside Leader) is for our volunteers who lead activities at events e.g. guided walks.

We have other roles which complement our Ambassadors by engaging with customers on a day to day basis, outside out events programmes: Rangers, Lock keepers, Explorers, Waterside Champions and Youth Engagement roles.

What you will be doing
  • Attending other organisations’ events and taking the Trust to them
  • Giving talks in the local community to adult groups
  • Promoting the waterways in other ways in your local community
  • Helping at events at our museums and attractions to share our amazing museums’ collection
The skills you need
  • Friendly
  • Reliable
  • Good with people
  • Positive outlook
What's in it for you
  • A sense of reward
  • The opportunity to meet lots of interesting people
  • The opportunity to develop your communications skills
