Job description

In order to develop and expand the capabilities of SAFRAN Engineering Services in the UK, we are looking to recruit a Senior AI Software Engineer to work on major programmes within the Engineering Methods & Tools Department by taking a leading role in the design, development, and deployment of AI projects supporting engineering activities.

The role is initially for 12 months, but may extend up to 24 months, and with ideally an immediate start. The role is based in Gloucester. For the initial period (usually 3 months), the Senior AI Software Engineer will be based full time onsite, then depending on priorities and dependencies, there may be an opportunity to operate in a hybrid model, for up to two days working from home per week.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders to design, build, and implement machine learning models and AI solutions that improve the productivity, efficiency, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical direction, ensuring consistency and reliability of AI project technologies, and methodologies
  • Oversee technical standards and best practices to future AI projects
  • Prototype, develop, and implement machine learning models and AI solutions for engineering applications
  • Design and build scalable ML systems and AI solutions
  • Manage data pipelines and ensure data quality
  • Collaborate with data scientists, product owners, and stakeholders to manage the model development pipeline
  • Promote and implement AI best practices and continuous improvement
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with deployed AI systems
  • Document all steps in the development process
Requirements
  • 2-5 years' experience at least in software engineering role
  • Strong hands‑on experience designing, prototyping, and implementing AI solutions
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals
  • Programming Languages: Python, Java
  • Experience with LLM, machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and computer vision
  • Strong background in software engineering principles, including deployment and maintenance of AI systems
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, experience with AWS is an advantage
  • Experience with databases and data stores
  • Statistical analysis, data visualization
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with other team members
  • Leadership: supervises, mentors, and provides guidance to junior engineers or apprentices
  • Proactive, autonomous, adaptable, good communication and strong team collaborator
