Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Agricultural Service Technician to join the existing team at our Sutterton branch, based in Lincolnshire. Reporting directly to the Service Manager, you will be primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of all equipment associated with agricultural machinery sold by the company’s sales departments in the Lincolnshire area.
Working with Ernest Doe will give you direct access to the manufacturers for support and training, as well as the benefit of working with our own experienced team members.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a wide range of agricultural and horticultural machinery including tractors, mowers, sprayers, and compact equipment.
- Diagnose hydraulic and electrical faults using the latest software and successfully carry out repairs which may be chargeable, warrantable, or internal type jobs.
- Lifting heavy machinery and applying sound judgment to items requiring the assistance of special tools, adhering to Health & Safety protocols to avoid injury or equipment damage.
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of industry standards, common machinery, seasonal service cycles, and customer expectations gained through hands-on experience in agricultural or horticultural service environments.
- Confidently manage tasks independently in the field or workshop, making informed decisions and troubleshooting issues without immediate supervision. Plan work effectively, prioritize jobs, and complete assignments with minimal direction.
- Display strong personal drive and commitment to excellence, take ownership of responsibilities, maintain a proactive approach to challenges, and continuously seek opportunities to improve skills and service quality.
- Maintain physical fitness necessary for demanding manual tasks including lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and working in varying outdoor conditions. Demonstrate resilience and endurance in a physically active role.
- Present yourself in a clean, tidy, and professional manner in alignment with the company’s standards.
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously with customers during service visits or in-person consultations. Provide technical advice in a relatable manner, manage expectations, and build trust through reliable and transparent service delivery.
- Full clean driver’s licence.
Qualifications
Essential Skills/Experience include the ability to perform maintenance, servicing, and repairs on agricultural and horticultural machinery, diagnose hydraulic and electrical faults, and operate with professional integrity and safety. Must be able to work independently or with a team and demonstrate strong customer service skills.
Additional Information
- Start Date: Immediate, subject to notice period
- Hours: 39 hours per week — 8am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday, 8am to 4pm Friday (1-hour unpaid lunch)
- Salary: Competitive, depending on experience, plus company van and mobile phone
