Mental Health Recovery and Wellbeing Activities Assistant & Coordinator / Activities Support Worker

A rewarding opportunity for a compassionate, creative and motivated individual who enjoys planning and delivering engaging creative activities such as art, crafts, music or similar fun stuff is required for an organisation that provides supported housing and living services for vulnerable adults with mental health conditions.

If you’ve also worked in the following roles, we’d also like to hear from you: Activities Assistant, Support Worker, Recovery Support Assistant, Wellbeing Facilitator, Community Engagement Coordinator.

SALARY: £27,000 – £28,500 per annum (depending on experience)

LOCATION: Work across various sites in Lewisham, Croydon, Lambeth, and Southwark

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

Duties
  • Programme Planning: Assist the Recovery Manager with planning and delivering a programme of activities that promotes residents' wellbeing, social interaction, and skills development.
  • Programme Design: Create a stimulating and varied programme of leisure activities and social events, both inside and outside the units. Activities may include workshops, creative arts, therapeutic interventions, and social events.
  • Programme Communication: Coordinate with the Recovery Manager to produce and advertise a monthly, weekly, and daily programme of activities and social events.
  • Information & Events: Prepare a monthly newsletter, posters, and leaflets for events.
  • Community Engagement: Build contact with local community groups to allow residents to participate in desired hobbies and interests.
  • Resident Collaboration: Work closely with residents to assess their interests, preferences, and needs. Encourage participation in all activities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Risk Management: Conduct referral meetings and risk assessments for potential activity participants.
  • Inter‑departmental Collaboration: Collaborate with the Recovery Manager, Unit Managers, Group Managers, Support Workers, and other professionals to integrate activities with residents' overall support plans.
  • Multi‑Site Work: Deliver activities across Lewisham, Croydon, Lambeth, and Southwark.
  • Health & Safety: Cooperate with the Recovery Manager to ensure activities comply with health and safety regulations and that risk assessments are completed.
  • Reporting: Record and report on activities, outcomes, participation levels, and other relevant metrics to the Activities Coordinator.
  • Safeguarding: Follow the Safeguarding Policy, identify and report safeguarding concerns, and protect residents from abuse and neglect.
  • Inclusion & Diversity: Develop activities that promote inclusion, equality, and diversity, allowing residents to fully participate based on unique preferences and needs.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience in event planning across various settings.
  • Experience with creative activities such as art, crafts, music or similar creative pursuits.
  • Demonstrates empathy and kindness to residents, while being able to set firm boundaries when required.
  • Experience working with challenging behaviour and 'hard to reach' residents.
  • Previous experience in supported housing or a similar setting.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • IT literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility to work on a rota basis across a seven‑day week, including occasional evening events.
  • Must be able to obtain a DBS check.
