Overview
The United Kingdom Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is a system leader for health security; taking action internationally to strengthen global health security, providing trusted advice to government and the public and reducing inequalities in the way different communities experience and are impacted by infectious disease, environmental hazards, and other threats to health. UKHSA’s remit, as an agency with a global‑to‑local reach, is to protect the nation’s health from infectious diseases and other external threats.
Responsibilities
- Work with UKHSA programme leads, academics and other university staff to promote and integrate health protection academic activity in support of translational research.
- Manage, maintain, develop and evaluate the workflow for honorary academic contracts, answering questions on processes and procedures as required.
- Manage the academic commissioning model, scheduling workload to ensure capacity to deliver other business‑as‑usual tasks.
- Deal with complex and sensitive internal and external enquiries and documents.
- Contribute to building a strong, effective and influential public health academic network.
- Support the Head of Academic Relationships to work in partnership across UKHSA to maximise the value of the academic network.
- Work in partnership with the UKHSA academic liaison managers to ensure academic activities are monitored and objectives managed.
- Develop and maintain effective communication channels with all key stakeholders and communicate effectively with internal and external colleagues.
- Develop and produce regular update briefings using highlight reports, newsletters and UKHSA intranet.
- Coordinate information analysis and production and dissemination of reports, presentations and other documentation as required.
- Organise and participate in network meetings as required.
- Coordinate the evaluation of health protection academic capacity and capability as required.
- Responsible for organising and controlling own workload ensuring deadlines are observed and duties performed efficiently.
- Contribute to and support other areas of the team as required.
- Carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required.
Essential Criteria
- Complete an application form (Employer/Activity history section) and a 1,000‑word supporting statement (no more than 1,000 words).
- Experience in workflows, document management and report creation (e.g. SharePoint, MS Forms, Power BI).
- Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience in communications and stakeholder management, with skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks.
- Ability to engender trust and confidence, demonstrating integrity in the provision of advice and support.
- Previous experience in a similar role in the public sector.
- A good understanding of the health protection and public health environment and its roles and responsibilities.
- Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre‑empt and evaluate issues, and recommend appropriate action.
- Problem‑solving skills and the ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.
- Attention to detail combined with the ability to extract key messages from complex analysis.
- Independent thinker with demonstrated good judgement, problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and plan and organise own workload without supervision, working to tight and often changing timescales.
- An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships.
- Educated to degree level in a STEM subject or an equivalent level of experience.

- Sound knowledge of project management techniques and delivering objectives on time.
- Willingness to learn new ways of working and tools to support this.
- Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of health or related services.

Salary
- HEO Inner London: £37,749 – £45,353
- HEO Outer London: £35,587 – £43,244
- HEO National: £33,422 – £40,731
Working Conditions
- Hybrid working with a minimum of 60% of contractual working hours at one of the core HQs.
- Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Basic DBS required.
- Potential for any temporary or secondment arrangements in line with civil service policy.
- Job may require redeployment to another role at short notice as a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act.
