Description

About REV Ocean REV Ocean has a bold and clear goal: to achieve 'One Healthy Ocean'. Our mission is to drive systemic change by collaborating with leaders, scientists, and innovators to create scalable solutions for the health of the ocean. At the heart of this mission is the REV Ocean vessel, a state‑of‑the‑art research platform dedicated to ocean exploration, scientific discovery, and advancing solutions for ocean sustainability.

The Vessel is unlike any other ship. It is equipped with some of the most sophisticated facilities onboard for carrying out cutting‑edge ocean science, as well as offering charter opportunities designed to integrate exploration, adventure, and science. REV Ocean will operate as a research vessel for 2/3 of the year and be available for charters for 1/3 of the year.

We are looking for :

  • Rank: Able Seaman (STCW Reg.II/5 certified)
  • Embarkation: 15/Jan/2026
  • Contract: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off
  • Salary in USD/per month worked – TBA upon interview

The Able Seafarer (AB) is part of the deck team and responsible for the maintenance, operation and upkeep of deck spaces and equipment as directed by the Bosun or Chief Officer. The AB will also provide lookout duties and assist the Captain, Chief Officer or Bridge Officers as required.

Safety Duties
  1. Participates in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions.
  2. Always complies with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
  3. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
  4. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education / Experience / Qualifications
  1. Valid STCW95 certification.
  2. Appropriate certification as required by regulations and STCW Reg.II/5 and STCW Reg.V/2.
  3. Good understanding of exterior maintenance and repair.
  4. Must be fully proficient in operating tender boats and rescue boats.
  5. Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.
  6. Physically and medically fit.
  7. Moral integrity is required.
  8. Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.
Language Requirements

Fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with light traffic and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Support the Captain in achieving REV Objectives (safety, quality and environmental).
  • Support the Captain in ensuring the ship’s compliance with company policies and procedures as well as international, state, or local maritime regulations.
  • Support the Captain in ensuring the ship’s compliance with International Safety Management (ISM), classification society rules, and Maritime Insurance, within his/her area of responsibility.
  • Be aware of QHSE in all tasks and operations and report any issues, discrepancies, accidents, or incidents immediately to the Bridge.
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures and assist in accordance with the safety plan.
  • Partake in emergency drills and training as and when required.
  • Assist with helicopter operations as directed and when required.
  • Perform general maintenance, repair, sanitation, cleanliness and upkeep of material, equipment, and areas in the deck department, including water sport equipment and toys.
  • Maintain ship’s exterior structure as required and instructed by Bosun/Chief Officer.
  • Assist in operations as required, including bridge look‑out, science operations (including deployment and recovery), small boat operations, mooring, etc.
  • Assist the Captain and Chief Officer and other Bridge Officers as required and directed.
  • Provide ISPS, security, and safety related duties, including in‑port watch, anchor watch, and lookout duties as required.
  • Assist with lashing and securing cargo and equipment on deck.
  • Be familiar with and assist with the use of all emergency, lifesaving, damage control, and safety equipment.
  • Provide a high level of service for guests, including assisting with water sports equipment and activities as required.
  • Drive tenders for guests, crew, and other personnel, when required and as directed.
  • If directed by the Chief Officer or Bosun, assist in other departments as required.
  • Be involved in toolbox talks, pre‑job safety meetings etc, as required.
