Summary

Historic England has a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as a Listing and Casework Assistant (6 week placement).

This is a part-time 6 week paid placement funded by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority. We offer hybrid working where you are based in the Cambridge office and from home.

As part of the funding agreement with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority to be eligible for this placement you must be aged 22 years or over and live in Cambridgeshire. You will be required to start at the end of January 2026/early February due to funding restrictions this date cannot be moved.

Purpose of the Placement

You will co‑coordinate listing and development advice casework; research and assess historic places including buildings, archaeological remains and designed landscapes; and log and process casework.

As a Listing and Casework Assistant you will be based in the Business Support Team, but will focus on work for the Listing Team.

What you will be doing
  • Acting as the initial point of contact for customer enquiries concerning listing; ensuring high standards of customer service at all times.
  • Undertaking research into sites and areas using a range of sources such as aerial photographs, historic maps, plans, and reports.
  • Working with Information Specialists on data collection, mapping, and data standards issues.
  • Undertaking project and day‑to‑day administrative work for the strategic listing programme.
  • Adding photographs from the Archive or other reasonable sources to the Missing Pieces Project for designated assets on the National Heritage List for England.
