Location: HMP Pentonville, Caledonian Rd, London N7 8TT.

Salary: £41,984 for a 39‑hour week (incl. 20% unsocial).

Vacancy type: Merit.

  • Tattoos permitted if not offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating; facial tattoos generally unacceptable unless for cultural, religious or medical reasons
  • For category A (high‑security) prisons: have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
How to Apply

1. Complete the initial application form.

2. Stage 1 online test – basic judgement and numerical skills.

3. If passed, Stage 2 – task‑based assessment.

4. Successful candidates invited to an online assessment centre (OAC).

5. Upon OAC success, a medical and fitness test (eyesight, hearing, basic health screening).

Pay and Hours

Initial training: 37 hours a week. After training you may choose 37, 39 or 41 hours a week. Annual salary reflects weekly hours.

  • 37 h/w = £39,493 a year
  • 39 h/w = £41,984 a year
  • 41 h/w = £44,474 a year
