Description du poste
Overview

The Particle Physics Department (DPhP) of the Institute for Research on the Fundamental Laws of the Universe (IRFU) at CEA Paris-Saclay is inviting applications for the recruitment in 2026 of two permanent researchers in high-energy particle physics at colliders, one to join the ATLAS group and the other to join the CMS group.

The scientific activities of the DPhP cover the study of elementary constituents at the highest energies at colliders, neutrino physics, gamma-ray astronomy, cosmology, the study of gravitational waves, and upstream instrumentation.

The DPhP has a long history in particle physics at colliders and has contributed significantly to the ATLAS and CMS experiments since their inception. The department's physicists are involved in analyses of Higgs boson, top quark, and electroweak physics, in the upgrading of the two detectors for the high-luminosity phase of the LHC, an activity that will be particularly intense during LS3, and in the preparation of longer-term experiments at future colliders.

We are looking for motivated candidates with a PhD in particle physics, experimental physicists of excellent scientific level, who wish to join the ATLAS or CMS groups. The skills sought relate to data analysis and interpretation and an understanding of the challenges in high-energy physics. Instrumental knowledge and a willingness to invest in detector upgrades and instrumental developments for future detectors are required.

Candidates may apply for the position within the ATLAS group or for the position within the CMS group, or even for both positions. In the latter case, a description of the future research project for each position is expected.

The application file must contain:

  • a curriculum vitae;
  • a photocopy of your identity card or passport;
  • a cover letter;
  • a description of the candidate's past scientific activity (maximum 4 pages) ;
  • a description of the candidate's future research project (maximum 3 pages) ;
  • a list of publications and internal notes highlighting the candidate's personal contributions. The most significant ones ( maximum 3 ) should be attached;
  • a list of presentations at conferences, workshops, and seminars;
  • 3 letters of recommendation (to be sent directly to the DPhP secretariat );
  • 2 or 3 names of people who can be contacted for references.

This file in PDF format must be received in full by April 7, 2026, at the latest, at the following address: Irfu-dphp-contact@cea.fr.

After a preliminary selection based on applications, scheduled for the end of May 2026, successful candidates will be interviewed at the end of June or beginning of July 2026.

For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us by telephone on +33 (1) 69 08 23 50 or by email at the department secretariat: Sarra.Bounab@cea.fr.
