Sateliot is a Barcelona-based startup in the New Space sector, becoming the first satellite telecommunications operator to provide global and continuous connectivity for the massive Internet of Things (IoT) universe under the 5G protocol.

Sateliot is launching a constellation of next-generation nanosatellites, positioned at low altitude acting as mobile towers. It complements large telecommunications companies by providing infrastructure where terrestrial technologies do not reach.

YOUR MISSION

Design and develop Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the satellite industry. You will create mechanical systems for satellite and spacecraft projects, starting with GSE and progressing to satellite mechanical subsystems. This role requires both independent work and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

This is a unique opportunity to be the first mechanical engineer at Sateliot, contributing to key mechanical systems for satellite manufacturing and gaining valuable experience in the space industry. The ideal candidate is a versatile, independent problem-solver with a passion for space exploration and technology.

YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS

  1. Design GSE mechanical jigs and mechanisms to support MAIT activities, including manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing.
  2. Mechanical design of spacecraft components and systems, ensuring they meet functional and environmental requirements.
  3. Use SolidWorks (or similar CAD tools) to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  4. Perform mechanical and thermal analyses to evaluate the behavior of materials and components under space conditions.
  5. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques for space applications, focusing on lightweight, durable, and radiation-resistant materials.
  6. Collaborate on thermal, structural, vibration, and environmental testing to validate designs.
  7. Work closely with electrical engineers, system engineers, and other disciplines to ensure system integration and performance.
  8. Develop documentation for proper use and handling of GSE and subsystems by the MAIT team.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years in mechanical design, preferably in spacecraft or satellite industries, or similar remote, high-quality manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience designing GSE, testing jigs, or similar tools.
  • Experience in high-quality manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of spacecraft design requirements, including thermal, vacuum, and radiation considerations.
  • Knowledge of materials and techniques used in spacecraft design (e.g., aluminum, honeycomb panels, heat pipes).
  • Ability to work independently with a proactive attitude.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on approach.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with thermal analysis and simulations using ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of space-qualified materials and manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience in designing for manufacturing and cost-effective production.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (NASA, ESA, ISO).
  • Experience with system-level integration and testing of spacecraft.
  • Experience with small satellite systems.
